Palm Run (Alpha Release)

Welcome to Palm Run, a tropical endless runner designed to let you relax, zone out, or challenge your reflexes. 🌴 Run through a lush jungle, dodge obstacles, and collect coins as you aim for the highest score. This is my first-ever game project, and I’m excited to share it in its current alpha state.

Watch the gameplay video below to see Palm Run in action!

Features

  • Simple, Fun Gameplay: Navigate the path with A/D or Arrow Keys to move and Spacebar to jump, avoiding trees, logs, and totems along the way.
  • Tropical Vibes: Immerse yourself in a vibrant jungle setting with lush vegetation and a handcrafted environment.
  • Polished Menus: Fully functional UI including a main menu, pause menu, game over screen, controls, and settings.
  • Customizable Settings:
    • Adjust music and sound effects volume with smooth sliders.
    • Toggle fullscreen mode with ease.
  • Risk-Reward Mechanics: Collect coins strategically to boost your score while dodging hazards.
  • 6 Obstacle Patterns: Carefully designed to challenge players and keep gameplay engaging. Many more are planned for future updates.

Controls

  • A/D or Left/Right Arrow Keys: Move left or right.
  • Spacebar: Jump over obstacles.
  • Escape (ESC): Pause the game and open the pause menu.
  • Mouse: Navigate menus.

All controls are accessible via the Controls Menu, which includes handy visual icons to make everything easy to understand.

Known Issues

  • Alpha State: This is an early build of the game, so some features (like upgrades or relics) are not yet implemented.
  • UI Feedback: No animations or extra polish on button interactions—just functional menus for now.
  • Obstacle Jerkiness: Occasionally, there may be a slight delay or jerk when spawning new obstacle segments.
  • Performance Testing: The game has only been tested on my development laptop, so I’d love to hear how it performs on other machines!

What’s Next

Palm Run is still evolving, and I have big plans for its future, including:

  • More Obstacle Patterns: Expanding beyond the current six to make each run feel fresh and unique.
  • Upgrades & Power-Ups: Spend your collected coins on enhancements to make each run more exciting.
  • Relics & Achievements: Adding collectible items and milestones to give players long-term goals.
  • Polished Animations & Effects: Adding more life and movement to the game’s UI and environment.
  • Optimized Performance: Leveraging object pooling and other optimizations to ensure smooth gameplay, even as the game evolves with more features.
